The Missoula Public Library is a gorgeous, contemporary space located in downtown Missoula. It’s a central hub for lifelong learning and community engagement.
The library ethos and architecture is inspired by the Scandinavian Culture House model which emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and public interaction.

Artists will make use of innovative tools and state-of-the-art technologies at the Missoula Public Library’s MakerSpace. Artists will be offered a public-facing workspace in the MakerSpace and are welcome to immerse themselves in the library at large fully.
The Missoula Public Library was voted the World’s Best Library in 2022 by the International Federation of Library Services, and offers a wide variety of services and inspiring spaces that artists are encouraged to engage with.
The Missoula Public Library's MakerSpace tools and resources include:
3D printers
Desktop CNC machine
Circuit Maker & Laser cutter
Desktop and handheld 3D scanner systems
Soldering irons and supplies
Variety of STEM toys and activities for kids
Raspberry Pi 3 Starter Kits and Arduino Inventor's Kits
Sewing machine
Variety of art materials
Additionally, the Summer I MPL artist will have modest access to studio facilities at the University of Montana in ceramics, printmaking, and painting.

Artists coming from out of town will be provided accommodations in Missoula. Each year our housing changes based on the needs of incoming residents and changing housing options in Missoula. Generally, residents are housed together in a centrally located furnished home or apartment with a private bedroom in Missoula. Applicants will have the opportunity to share their housing needs in the Artist-In-Residence application.

The Missoula Public Library is located in downtown Missoula, easily accessible by walking, bike, and free public transportation. Free parking is available on a first-come-first-served basis at the library.

The MakerSpace is located centrally on the ground floor of the new Missoula Public Library building and is public-facing. Artists-in-Residence should feel comfortable interfacing with the public and answering occasional questions from inquiring on-lookers.
Additionally, the MakerSpace offers free classes and creative experiences to the community. Artists are invited to propose a workshop in addition to their artist presentation.
