COMMUNITY RESOURCES
In addition to connecting artists with the main residency site, we strive to connect artists with community resources that help support their creative practice as artists-in-residence! Here are some of our community partners who provide resources to artists during their stay.
-
Studio space for movement/theatrical/installation artists
Studio available during "off" hours: daytime 10-3 pm M-F, weekend daytime & eve flexibility
Potential installation space/storage *summer residency
Movement and/or multi-media performance and workshop venue (access to projector, green screen, other media equipment)
WESTSIDE THEATER
Missoula Public Library + MCAT
-
Open to all of the Public, it is good for artists to be aware of the many resources available to them at the Missoula Public Library. This includes the Makerspace (Laser cutter, sewing machines, 3-d printer, CNC Router, small electronics, and more), the Montana Historical Archives, a demo kitchen, and MCAT Media Lab with Adobe Suite editing tools, sound rooms, a green room, and more.
MUD: Missoula Urban Demonstration Project Tool Library
-
Artists have full access to MUD’s tool library.
Most tools are available to check out for free. Occasionally there is a small fee to check out specialty items. (Often tools requiring gas). That fee will be the responsibility of the artist.
Artists will be responsible to checking out the tool and returning the tool in good shape in a timely fashion. (Remuneration may be required if tools are lost, damaged, or late.)
Home ReSource
-
Home ReSource is a treasure trove of materials reclaimed and donated by the community. Materials include house paints, wood, building materials, metal, and much more.
Home ReSource generously offers materials for current Open AIR Artists-in-Residence. A vast majority of the items are free and many others at a discount rate.
Philip Wright Zoological Museum and the Montana Natural History Center
-
Open AIR Residents have access to the taxidermy archives of the Philip Wright Zoological Museum on the University of Montana Campus and free visitation to the Montana Natural History Center during their residency.
