Mary Beth Wilhelm was born in Cleveland Ohio and moved to Montana in 1974. She is married with three grown children and 4 grandchildren.
Her painting and sketching style has developed over the years. She attended The Cleveland Museum of Art classes from the early age of 7 to 13 years old. That experience exposed her to vast art collections. Her favorite styles are paintings from the Italian Renaissance and the Impressionist. She experienced the joy of painting outdoors on field trips with her high school art teacher Sr. Elizabeth Shur to marinas and local parks. Artists she has studied with are Harold Demont Olsen, Mark Ogle Studio, Janet Pozzi Johnson, Sheila Miles, Bob Phinney and Terra Chapman and Maurillio Malone at The Missoula Fine Art Studio.
Her watercolor paintings begin with thumbnail sketches to larger field sketch and color studies. Reference photos help to record the lighting that changes so fast while outside. Finished art is work from those initial studies.
Mary Beth’s paintings have been in the Montana Watercolor Society’s national juried exhibitions.
