ABOUT THE ARTIST
Founder Courtney Little Axe (Northern Cheyenne, Absentee Shawnee, and Seminole) transforms traditional art into alternative fashion that commands attention. Her work channels generations of family legacy, ancestral knowledge, and traditional craft and pairs it with alternative styles, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that break boundaries. Each garment and accessory is more than clothing, it’s a declaration. A wearable act of resistance that stands tall against the invisibility of alternative Native people. ALTRN8V is made for the rebels, the outcasts, the ones who don’t just reject society’s idea of “normal,” they redefine it on their own terms. We represent those that are tired of being perceived as a relic of the past or a page in a history book. We are not here to please. We are here to exist; loudly, fiercely, and without apology.

The Indigenous Art, Indigenous Minds Speaker Series is a project of Open AIR’s Indigenous Initiatives Committee, established to elevate Indigenous Leadership and creative practices in Montana and beyond. All presentations are available on Open AIR’s YouTube Channel.
